Welcome to Old Clinch Crafters

My name is Abigail, and I make quilts and keepsakes here in Southwest Virginia. Most of what I sew starts with clothes you already have: a stack of school T-shirts, a baby’s first outfits, the jerseys from every season, or your granddaddy’s flannels. I turn them into something you can use every day and pass down.

I also finish quilt tops on my long-arm machine and mend old quilts that need a little care.

Old Clinch Crafters is a Christian, family-owned business, and I’d be glad to make something for you.

T-shirt counts are for squares with strips between them. I size the squares to your biggest design, so I’ll tell you exactly how many I need. Button-ups and flannels take about three-fourths as many. Framed squares add $10 and framed with corner squares add $20, for the extra fabric. Framed blocks and Lone Star add $50.

A 60 × 70 throw is about $71 to quilt. A 90 × 108 queen is about $165. Designs are simple all-over patterns like meanders, loops, and waves, guided by hand. Repairs have a $25 minimum, and I’ll tell you the cost before I start.

Pickup at the shop is free. So is delivery within about a 30-minute drive, and in Abingdon.
Shipping is $50 for quilts, $20 for bears, and $15 for pillows.
Clothes I don’t use come back to you with your finished piece, free.

OUR STORY

Hi, I’m Abigail.

Twelve years ago, I started sewing at my mom’s side, helping make things for our family and friends. Napkins first, then clothes, then just about anything.

My quilts have brought home ribbons from the county fair three years in a row. At Christmas in 2024, a wonderful lady gave me her long-arm quilting machine, so now I finish quilt tops for other quilters too.

Three years ago, with my parents behind me, I opened Old Clinch Crafters. I’ve made a quilt from a graduate’s school T-shirts, bears from a baby’s first clothes, and quilts from the shirts of people who are dearly missed. Some are for celebrating and some are for remembering. Either way, they’re made to be used and kept.

We’re a Christian family, and this is a family business. My mom taught me to sew, and my dad has served grieving families as a funeral director for 30 years. Growing up around that taught me how much the right keepsake can mean.

A quilt takes time. I enjoy every part of making one, and I’d be honored to make one for you.

Questions people ask

How much will mine cost?

Memory quilts start at $190 and go up by size. Bears are $60. Long-arm quilting is 1.7¢ a square inch. The order form shows your price as you pick, and I confirm it in writing before you pay anything.

Why does a memory quilt cost what it does?

Because it’s made to last for generations. Good fabric for the backing and sashing costs more, and so do quality batting and strong thread that holds up to years of washing. Then there’s the time. Every piece is cut, stretchy T-shirts get backed with interfacing so they hold their shape, and then it’s all laid out, pieced, quilted, and bound. A single quilt takes many hours. You’re paying for good materials, careful work, and years of practice, and you get something your family can keep for a lifetime.

How many shirts do I need?

A lap quilt takes about 6 to 8 T-shirts, and a Full takes about 18 to 22, with strips between the squares. I size the squares to your biggest design, so I’ll tell you exactly how many I need. Button-ups and flannels take about three-fourths as many. The order form has a shirt counter that tells you what size your pile will make.

Will my clothes be cut?

Yes. To make a quilt, bear, or pillow, I cut the clothes, and they can’t be put back together. I’ll check in with you along the way, and if something worries you, we’ll work through it together. Once a piece is finished, though, it can’t be taken apart and made over.

How do I get my clothes to you?

Drop them at the front desk of The Oxbow Center in St. Paul, any weekday from 9 to 4. You can also hand them to me in Abingdon, or mail them with tracking once your deposit is in. I’ll text you the day they arrive.

How long does it take?

Quilts start at about two weeks from the day your clothes arrive, and bigger quilts or detailed designs take longer. Bears are usually done within a week. If you need it by a certain date, like Christmas or graduation, put it in your notes and I’ll tell you up front whether I can make it.

What happens to the clothes you don’t use?

They’re yours, so they come back to you with your finished piece at no charge. Just let me know on the order form.

Can you quilt a top I made?

Yes. Bring me your pieced top and a backing at least 4 inches bigger on every side. My long-arm is guided by hand, so I stitch simple all-over designs like meanders, loops, and waves.

How do I pay?

PayPal, check, or cash. The deposit holds your spot in line, and the balance is due when it’s finished.
